Easy Nutella Recipes
88Nutella is a thick chocolate-hazelnut spread with a consistency similar to that of creamy peanut butter. It's delicious just spooned from the jar, used in a variety of desserts and snacks or paired with fresh fruit, particularly strawberries and bananas.
Nutella was created by an Italian pastry maker in the 1940s. At the time, chocolate was rationed like many other foods during World War II. Hazelnuts, which were in abundant supply in the area, were ground and added to the chocolate to extend the supply. Nutella was born.
There are several different ways you can use it: to create unique and delicious sandwiches, melt it and use it as a yummy glaze for other desserts, or simply add a bit of the stuff to your regular chocolate recipes (cakes, chocolate chip cookies, etc.) Whatever you do with it, you're sure to love it as there is simply no way to ruin any recipe that has Nutella in it!
Creative Sandwiches
You don't need a lot of additional ingredients to make a tantalizing dessert or snack. Use Nutella as a spread to make simple, sweet sandwiches:
- Vanilla wafers or other simple cookies
- Sugar donuts, split in half horizontally
- Plain white bread or toasted English muffin
- French toast - Spread the Nutella between two pieces of cooked French toast. Place back on the griddle until slightly warmed.
- Banana bread or other sweet breakfast breads
Chocolate-Hazelnut Panini with Strawberries
Cut pound cake* into 1/2" thick slices. Spread one side of all of the slices with Nutella. Add thinly-sliced fresh strawberries to half of the slices. Cover with the remaining slices to form a sandwich.
Spray a panini pan with butter-flavored cooking spray and preheat the pan. Add the pound cake sandwiches to the heated pan, and grill for approximately two minutes, or until you have nice grill lines on the pound cake and the Nutella begins to soften.
*Frozen pound cake works best for this recipe.
Fried Wontons
Separate wonton wrappers into individual sheets. In the center of each wrapper, place a small dollop (approximately 1 teaspoon) of Nutella and top with a slice of ripe banana. Use a pastry brush to moisten the edges of the wonton with a beaten egg mixture. Fold the wontons in half to form a triangle. Use your fingers to press the edges of the wonton firmly together to seal completely.
Preheat a deep fryer, or heat two inches of oil in a pan to approximately 350 degrees. Drop the wontons in a few at a time and cook, turning them over during the process, until they are lightly browned and cooked through, usually 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from pan and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar and serve warm.
Homemade Croissants
Open a store-bought tube of crescent dough. Separate each of the triangles and lay them flat. Brush one side with melted butter. Place approximately 1 teaspoon of Nutella near the bottom (wide side) of the triangle. Roll the croissants from the wide side up to the tip of the triangle and bend to form a crescent shape. Using a clean pastry brush, brush lightly with a beaten egg mixture.
Place the croissants approximately 1" apart on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 15 minutes or until the croissants are golden brown. Remove from the oven, transfer to serving platter and dust with confectioner's sugar. These are best served warm.
Chocolate-Hazelnut Crepes
Use your favorite crepe recipe to make as many crepes as desired. One at a time, spread the warm crepe out and cover with a thin layer of Nutella. Fold the crepe in half and then in half twice more. If desired, you can also top these with sliced strawberries or bananas before folding. Drizzle with some warm Nutella and top with fresh whipped cream, or simply dust with confectioner's sugar.
Note: You can keep the bare crepes warm in a 225 degree oven until you are ready to assemble and serve.
Nutella S'Mores
Break a full-sized graham cracker in half. Spread each half with Nutella. Pop a marshmallow onto a stick or skewer and roast over an open fire until the marshmallow just begins to turn lightly brown. (If you're not close to a fire, you can simply substitute marshmallow fluff.)
Place the toasted marshmallow on top of the Nutella on one half of the graham cracker, top with the other half of the graham cracker making a sandwich. Squeeze firmly together and enjoy.
Chocolate-Hazelnut Espresso
The perfect treat for a cold winter night! Simple place 1 tablespoon of Nutella in the bottom of your espresso cup. Microwave for 10 seconds. Add your Espresso and top with frothed milk. Stir well before drinking.
This would work equally as well in capuccino, regular coffee or hot chocolate. Just increase the amount to 2 tablespoons.
Delicious Eclairs
So simple, and yet so delicious! Simply make a batch of choux dough, pipe into an eclair shape approx. 3" to 4" long and bake. When the eclairs have cooled, split them in half lengthwise. Spread Nutella on the cut side of each half. Top the bottom half with sliced strawberries or bananas and place the top back on.
Heat up some Nutella until it is fairly liquid. Drizzle over the eclair, give it a dusting of confectioner's sugar and top with fresh whipped cream.
Did you know...?
- Each year there is a "World Nutella Day" celebration. The next one is on the calendar for February 5, 2010.
- What do Nutella and New York City's Central Park have in common? If you lined up the number of jars of Nutella produced in just one single hour, it would equal the length of Central Park.

I love nutella, and will save this recipe list.
I made the nutella crescents. They were good, especially served with homemade whipped cream.
Yum, Love Nutella, I am hungry now..
Love the nutella s'mores idea!!
Two words: Nutella. Waffles. I pretty much live on them. They always are awesome because when its spread on warm waffles, it melts ever so slightly, but it is to die for!
we'd love to use some of these ideas on our site. Can we get permission? They all look amazing!!
Wow these recipies look absolutly fabulous! Can't wait to test them all out, thanksss!!!! :)
At Christmastime a big hit was our new addition of Nutella Rice Krispy Treats to our cookie tray! Highly reccomend - it gave them almost a Tootsie roll flavor - very very yummy!
omg I love nutella and all this time ive been eating it out of the jar.i might try one of them now(:
Mmmmmm Nutella is my favorite. I am allergic to peanut butter so I often substitute it for that since it has a similar consistency. It works esp. well for puppy chow or muddy buddies
I love the nutella smores idea! I am definitely using this next time I go camping Thank you!
One of my favorite things to do with Nutella is melt it over a bowl of walnuts in the microwave and place the concoction in the freezer for a couple of hours. The frozen chocolate walnut chucks are sort of a cross between cookies, ice cream, and popcorn. You can eat a few by themselves for a snack or over ice cream.
my bf bought nutella a few days ago just tried it for the first time this morning now i'm here!!! kind of upset with my mother for growing up without it! i think i may call her lol thanks for recipies bf is gonna be sooo thrilled when he gets home!! already have a cake baking lol!
Great sounding recipes lrohner (Chef Mom) ;)
Every time I go grocery shopping I see Nutella - Giant, and Wal Mart - but I can't make myself purchase it yet. I'm a HUGE peanut butter fan but not so much a chocolate fan - UNLESS they splice it with peanut butter! ;) I'll keep these recipes in mind tho. My grandchildren would love them!
Yum! I just learned about Nutella! Guess I don't have to eat it right out of the jar anymore! My mouse recipe (altered from a Tupperware party recipe):
1 cup whipped cream (whip it in the Kitchenaid)
3/4 cup Nutella (gently fold in)
1/2 cup sour cream (gently fold in)
PUT in frig for 1 hour. You can serve it with strawberries or rasberries on top. YUM.
I was looking for Nutella recipes and found your hub. Looks like lots of good recipes.
Fried wantons is looking yummy. I also love what you did for hazelnut-choco espresso. Lovely.
I, too, love the stuff and I found it in Sedona AZ. However, in my home city of Indianapolis, I can't find it anywhere.
Any ideas? thank you!
That definitely makes me want to go buy some Nutella! Those are some delicious ideas, I really liked the Éclair and Crepes idea and even simpler the Vanilla Wafers one for my kids! Yum! Thank you!
Nutella is so yummy. It combines my two favorite flavors. We have a farmers market here every Saturday, and one of the booths makes fresh crepes on the spot. One of the choices for fillings is Nutella. :)
Yummy, I think I am going to have to go and get some Nutella now...
Try this easy recipe: take a tortilla, and warm in the microwave for 10 seconds. Spread it with a thin layer of Nutella. Lay a small banana in the middle, and roll up. Cut in 1/2 and enjoy! Super delicious!
I make the panini often only I use a croissant instead of pound cake. Yum!
Also, easy dessert: place dollops of nutella on a thawed pastry sheet, top with another thawed pastry sheet, cut between dollops, pinch edges, bake.
Spread Nutella on a a whole wheat tortilla, lay apple slices on one side and sprinkle with cinnamon. Fold over and eat like a quesadilla.
very interesting
What a deal!!!Just found a multi pack(two 26.5 oz) of Nutella at Costco(Reno,Nv)dirt cheap!!!

Oh no!!! Now a bottle of Nutella is not going to last more than 2 minutes in this house. We are already eating it with a teaspoon from the bottle! This is going to make it worse.
WOW! Love your recipes for Nutella. I am on a journey to find 365 ways to use Nutella and your recipes have given me some wonderful ideas.
I just tried nutella for the first time Sunday. I am now sad for the years of eating it I missed out on! Thanks for all the recipes. Those croissants with a dab of cream cheese in there too sound to die for. As a mom of 6 kiddos we go through lots of sweets. I love finding new things to try.
Ummm, Nutella. I can eat it with everything. Thanks for the cooking ideas. I'm bookmarking this hub.
Awesome, I will most likely try out each of these excellent nutella recipes I have an unused jar calling my name right now..I have used in the past in a desert pizza of sorts with good feedback (fried dough base)
OMGosh I love Nutella! I usually just eat it on Wheat Thins. So delicious!
I always wondered where the stuff came from. Thanks for the informative hub.
Wow, I only used Nutella in my hot chocolate. Now there's more nutella-eating opportunities. Thanks Irohner.
I love Nutella - My Step-Monster brought me some from Europe when I was a kid - it was not available everywhere back in the 70s - now they have it at our grocery store down the street. Thanks for the great drive down memory lane!
I'm like Lisa HW--I knew it was some sort of chocolate spread, but that was it...now I HAVE to go out and get some 'cause these recipes sound fantastic, especially the croissants.
Thanks so much for giving me some more snack options for my guys! :)
Excellent recipes...I'd try them but our jars of Nutella seem to disappear between being put on the pantry shelf and the next morning! One of my favorite breakfast items is a lightly toasted bagel, strawberry cream cheese and nutella. Thanks for more great recipes!
This Hub caught my eye because I've been walking by the jars of Nutella in my grocery store for years. I've never known what it is. :) Now I do.
Oh my goodness. Thanks for posting this. I have a jar of the stuff in my cupboard that I am not quite sure what to do with. The other day I made some banana macadamia nut pancakes and I spread some of the nutella on them instead of syrup. They were GOOD.
I love Nutella! It is so chocolaty good it is sinful. Thanks for these great recipes.

My husband loves that stuff and I can't stand it. It reminds me of these chocolate frosting and peanut butter sandwiches my brother used to make. I am not a big sweet-eater, but I will use your expertise to please my husband. He will be thrilled.
Irohner, I will not have Nutella in my house - it's too darn good and I'd make a total pib out of myself. At my sister's house I just spread it on Ritz crackers. Super yum!
Nutella Heaven! I love it... I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Thanks for the killer recipes. ;)
I love Nutella! There is also a great nutella cookie recipe over at allrecipes.com
Now , I am very hungry, could you email some of those?

YUMMM!!!! Too bad I am trying to cut back on my sugar intake. This is torture! lol :( Will definitely forward this along to a friend who loves Nutella. She'll go crazy for this.
Lrohner, these are great ideas for using Nutella! We actually have this spread on hand here, and I feel good serving it to my daughter, because it is sweetened with real sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. (Our particular jar of it originates from Canada -- but was sold at the local grocery store.)
You seriously would not believe how much Nutella gets eaten in our house, and that's just on toast and bagels! My kids will love these recipes, but on second thoughts I might have to keep quiet, as the Nutella bill is already sky high!

OMG. Nutella Eclaires. :) All these years I've been eating it out of the jar.
Some great recipes here! I never thought of using Nutella in these ways. I got it once but didn't really like it on bread. These are some really creative ideas - especially the one in wonton wrappers.
I think I may try the Croissants, those look really yummy. I also really like your layout, with the horizontal image dividers. Paws up!
